Meet Dawn Carson and Lisa Grubb

Dawn Carson is an Advanced Practice Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) Nurse with 40 years of experience across acute care, long-term care, and home care settings. A two-time recipient of the Penn Quality Patient Safety Award for her work in reducing pressure injuries, she is recognized nationally for her clinical expertise and innovation.


Dawn is a published author in the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (JWOCN) and the Journal of Nursing Care Quality. She currently serves as an acute care WOC nurse, a nurse practitioner specializing in wound care, and Co-Director and Professor in the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Education Program at LaSalle University.


A strategic and visionary leader, Dawn developed the Carson Heel Boot during her tenure at Penn Medicine, a device that significantly reduced heel pressure injuries. She has served as a speaker, consultant, and advisor to organizations including the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), NICHE, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority, and the Kendall organization.

Dr. Lisa Grubb is a nationally recognized Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse, healthcare leader, and consultant with over 30 years of experience advancing clinical quality and reducing patient harm. Her career spans acute care, long-term care, and community-based settings, with a strong focus on pressure injury prevention and systems-l

  

Dr. Lisa Grubb is a nationally recognized Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse, healthcare leader, and consultant with over 30 years of experience advancing clinical quality and reducing patient harm. Her career spans acute care, long-term care, and community-based settings, with a strong focus on pressure injury prevention and systems-level improvement.


She has led transformative quality initiatives in high-risk environments, including Emergency Departments and oncology units, implementing evidence-based strategies that have significantly improved patient outcomes. Her work has been presented at national conferences, including the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) and the WOCN Society.


Dr. Grubb has held senior leadership roles such as Senior Director of Quality and Patient Safety and Director of Infection Control. Her practice as a WOC Nurse extends to major healthcare institutions, long-term care facilities, and community-based care with The Daniel Torsch Foundation, where she continues to advocate for equitable access to wound care.





Our Mission

At CQ Quality Initiatives, we aim to partner with hospitals, WOCN's and patient care teams to identify gaps in prevention measures and prepare for the Electronic Clinical Quality Measures coming in 2028.
